Music, Mission, Art, Retreat, and Fellowship!

We ended the program year with music, mission, art and fellowship!

Music

Many thanks to the choir and special musicians for their amazing offering to the glory of God of music Sunday on Pentecost this year. Click here to view the beautiful service.

Mission

Teams volunteered for the Habitat Unity Day on May 24th. They put in floors and got to meet the future owners of the house. Another group from Second Pres will volunteer on June 7th!

Art

The pentecost mobiles hung in the sanctuary for Pentecost Sunday and the First Sunday After Pentecost. They were designed by Harlan McMurray and created by the art committee. They are installed each year to celebrate the birthday of the church!

New ordinary time banners were installed for the season!

Artist's Statement: Created using the paperlace technique with Old Testament Bible pages, the banners for ordinary time reflect God's presence in our everyday lives. A tree of life offers the main motif. The sacraments, baptism and eucharist, are woven in with water flowing in the roots, grape leaves growing in the branches, and grains patterning the space between. The colors of green and gold connect the liturgical color for ordinary time, green, with the color used to represent the presence of God in many historic works of art.

Retreat

A big group attended our church retreat at Richmond Hill entitled Breaking Through, hosted by Kelsey Hawisher-Faul! Lectures, yoga, and eco-spirituality provided time for connection with God in action, in contemplation, in purpose, and in prayer. Leadership was provided by Kate Fiedler, Fred Holbrook, Kelsey Hawisher-Faul, Deepthi Nalla, Sarah Wood, Tiffani Wells, Billie Carroll, Beth Nelson, Tricia Woodson, and Denise Carl. A shared lunch offered time for fellowship in community.

Fellowship

The youth went bowling! The young families played in the rain and fed the animals at Maymont! The Deacons hosted a picnic at Maymont!
