Blessing of the Palms!

The Downtown Community Ministry churches came together for our yearly collaborative Blessing of the Palms Service, led by The Rev. Reuben Boyd of Third Street Bethel AME Church, The Rev. Kate Fiedler of Second Presbyterian Church, The Rev. Gwynn Crighton of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, The Rev. Matt Bates of Centenary United Methodist Church, and The Rev. Charlie DuPree of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. The DCM congregations joined to celebrate Jesus triumphal entry into Jerusalem, waving palms and singing, “Hosanna!” The palm parades from the churches were welcomed by The Rev. Fred Holbrook of Second Presbyterian Church playing the bagpipes! Coming together each year for this service is a powerful witness to the important collective work of our congregations, collaborating on the weekday feeding ministry for our unhoused guests in downtown Richmond for the past half century.
