Sunday Worship

The ministry of the Rev. Dr. Taylor Lewis Guthrie Hartman has begun with joy at Second Presbyterian Church. We continue in this advent season with our theme Words for the Beginning, and with many services and events celebrating the always and not yet birth of Creator Sets Free (Jesus). Will you will join us in person this coming Sunday for our stunning Lessons and Carols service?! Sunday worship is the anchor point of our common life. Your presence in the sanctuary is needed as we gather in, awaiting the coming of tiny infant baby Jesus, our incarnate God, who would live in the world with us. Emmanuel, hallelujah. This Sunday the choir and handbell members will express joy and gratitude, hope and love through melodies and harmonies giving our gifts back to God in worship.

Advent Fair

Everyone made advent wreaths for the season. Here’s an advent candle lighting liturgy offered by the PC(USA) to use at home during this month! If you’re missing your advent devotional or your children’s advent calendar, stop by the table in the sanctuary hallway.

Christmas Caroling

Infants, children, youth, young adults, parents, grandparents, all generations joined together in caroling around the fire at Richmond Hill. We had fancy hot cocoa, the children played, and everyone sang. Many thanks to Mabel and her family for hosting and to Jimmy Garrity (Hannah’s brother) for leading on guitar.

Tacky Sweater and Christmas Trivia

MCs Jack Warren and Kate Fiedler led off an amazing Christmas Trivia and Tacky Sweater Contest hosted by the deacons. There were many creative sweater offerings and a hard won contest over the details of Christmas trivial and not so trivial throughout the ages.

RVA Street Singers Christmas Caroling

In Munroe Park, our very own RVA Street Singers joined many acts and hundred of people to sing Christmas Carols. They will perform again at our Walk In Ministry on Dec. 23 at noon in the dining room. Join in ministry and song that day by signing up, here.

Pastor Emeritus The Rev. Dr. Alex Evans

Alex and Ginger are welcomed back to the life and work of Second Presbyterian as retirees in our community. We give thanks for their ministry and look forward to being in life together though the coming years in this new capacity. The Rev. Dr. Taylor Lewis Guthrie Hartman invited Alex and Ginger in as soul friends who pray for and cheer on the ministry of Second Pres. May we gladden the hearts of those who journey with us.
