Doug & Peggy Singlemann
Peggy and Doug moved to Richmond in 1983 from Cold Springs on the Hudson, New York. They have 2 wonderful daughters and two terrific sons-in-law. Peggy is a Memere (grandmother) and Doug is Péperè (grandfather) to 3 fun grandchildren. Doug is a retired IT professional who now enjoys being able to spend time outdoors canoeing and kayaking. Peggy was Maymont’s Director of Horticulture for 38 years. She retired from Maymont in 2022 to focus on being the host and co-producer of “Virginia Home Grown” on VPM/PBS. Doug enjoys fishing, woodworking, and cooking; Peggy loves to garden, hike, travel, bird watch, and kayak.
Holly Coryell & Charlie Trochlil
Holly works as a Physician Assistant at a hospital in Richmond, staffing the ICUs. She enjoys biking around Richmond with Charlie and swims laps at the YMCA. Charlie moved to Richmond in 2021 after graduating from UVA. He works at Capitol One as an analyst. You can find him most days riding his bike in the Fan with Holly.
Jacq Lapsley
Jacq and her husband Greg Bezilla, an Episcopal priest, are happy to be in Richmond after many years in Princeton, NJ. Jacq serves as the President of Union Presbyterian Seminary. She and Greg enjoy biking and hiking—both in extreme moderation, and have two grown children, an adolescent rescue dog, and a curmudgeonly, elderly cat who takes a dim view on all his housemates.
Hannah & Aaron Haynes
Hannah is from Mishawaka, Indiana, and she graduated from Purdue University in 2021. She works at WestRock in research and development, focusing on recycling and sustainability. Hannah and Aaron were married in October of 2023. Aaron is from Fredericksburg, VA, and he graduated from the University of Mary Washington in 2018. He is currently the marketing specialist at Richmond International Airport. Hannah enjoys reading, visiting historic sites, trying new recipes, and basking in Virginia’s lovely weather. Aaron loves roller coasters, biking, hiking, and supporting Ravens and Hokies football.
Katherine Goldberg
After many moves, Katherine is happy to have found a permanent home in Richmond with her husband Mike and Irish doodle Aldus. She is happy to walk each week to work from their apartment in Shockoe Bottom and on Sundays to Second Pres.
Donna Gordon
Donna lived all over the US—from Palo Alto, California, to Northampton, Massachusetts. She is retired and is transferring her membership from Rio Rancho, New Mexico.
Deepthi Nalla
Deepthi is a seminary student from India, pursuing her Master of Arts in Christian Education degree at Union Presbyterian Seminary. She completed her M.Div. in India and graduated with a master's degree in theology (ThM) from Union this May. In India, she engaged with various ministries of the church, particularly ministering among, children, youth, and women. Currently, Deepthi is focusing on developing a curriculum for the Dalit Christian women, seeking to address the deep-seated generational and contextual traumas faced by these women, striving to facilitate positive transformation and liberation. Deepthi is married to Paul Nalla, who serves as the Children's Minister and the Director of Urban Engagement.
Bailey Sloop
Bailey is a recent NC State University graduate from Laurinburg, NC. In her free time, she enjoys crocheting, exploring Richmond, and playing the piano. She is excited to join the congregation at Second Pres and delighted to have found a supportive and loving church family!
Wendel Gouldman
Wendel transfers her membership from a church in the presbytery. A year ago she connected with Second Pres through the weekly energetic engagement in Lectio Divina, and now she volunteers in the gardens of Richmond Hill and is studying there to become a Spiritual Director. Wendel is retired after a varied career in teaching, working with satellite systems out of NSWC/Dahlgren, and as a local pastor in the United Methodist Church. She enjoys spending time with her two sons and their families, especially her granddaughter Millie.
Jerrod Sayles
Jerrod Sayles attends Walk-In, and started coming for Church School and Worship. When asked about his connection to Second, Jerrod replied, “This is my church.” We are grateful that Jerrod feels connected here, and we are glad that he has officially joined our church family.
Simon Kotto
Simon Kotto was introduced to Second Church through one of
his middle school teachers. He has attended worship faithfully,
helping with the Walk-In lunch program on Mondays. He grew up
in Cameroon, and now he works at Habitat for Humanity.
Sarah Clark Wood
Sarah Clark Wood grew up in this congregation, and we are delighted she has rejoined Second’s church family. Sarah has an extensive background in education and psychology. She has been enjoying attending the weekly Kerygma Bible study along with her mother, Marjorie.
Lindsey Slaughter
Lindsey was born and raised in Camp Hill, PA in the Presbyterian church there. She’s lived in various places across her schooling: Fredericksburg, VA, Dayton, OH, Washington DC, and now Richmond area (Midlothian). She is a Psychology Manager and geropsychologist at the Central Virginia VA Health Care System in Richmond. Lindsey has two cute kids, Kiran and Noorah, and is married to Nadeem Ahmed; her parents also live in the area. She loves music, being with friends and family, traveling, cats, etc., and she’s happy to call Second her new church home!
Almond Sin and Pan Chan
Almond and Pan both grew up in Hong Kong. They moved to the states for Almond to study Bible with a special focus on the Hebrew Scriptures. She is a PhD Student graduating from Vanderbilt soon. They moved to Richmond for her to teach at Union Presbyterian Seminary. Pan is a software engineer and they love hiking together especially along the James River. They can certainly tell you the best Chinese food in the City!
William Harkleroad
William was raised in a small town in Ohio. He enjoys the outdoors, politics, tech, and talking with new people. He moved to Virginia earlier this year and started attending Second Presbyterian when he found it online. He is excited to take this next step as a member and join Second and be baptized. As he says: “My faith journey has been a curvy one, but I am excited to merge onto the road with you all.”
Laura Knouse
Laura grew up in Pennsylvania in the Wesleyan Church and moved to Richmond in 2011, joining the Second Presbyterian Choir at that time. She is an Associate Professor of Psychology at University of Richmond and lives in Bon Air with her husband Steve Barkley and their sons Liam (12) and Craig (9). Laura is a certified Jazzercise Instructor, a licensed clinical psychologist, and sings in two rock-folk bands with other UR faculty members.
Joel and Juliet Faul
Joel and Juliet lived most of their adult lives in San Diego, CA and moved to Richmond in April this year. They have 3 daughters, and 3 granddaughters. Joel grew up in North Dakota, works in Software Development and is an avid runner. He enjoys learning languages, taking his grandchildren on outings and being active in his community. Juliet grew up in The Philippines, worked in nursing for many years and is currently retired. She enjoys taking care of her grandchildren, learning languages, flower arranging, interior decorating and entertaining guests.
Randy Smith
Randy Smith was raised in Fremont, Ohio, and completed college at Ohio State prior to serving three years as a Naval Officer. He recently celebrated 54 years of marriage to Frances, a native of Virginia Beach. He is retired from a career in Human Resource Management for several Virginia corporations, has served several PCUSA churches on Session and various committees, and is currently volunteering as a Certified Virginia Naturalist, planting native shade trees in Bryan Park.
Julia and Will Merritt
Julia and Will moved to the Richmond area from Charlottesville in late summer 2021. They recently got married and enjoy spending time together exploring the city and walking along the James River. Will works as a Public Information Officer and Julia is an elementary school counselor.
Evan and Kiana Vandyke
Evan and Kiana are getting married on April 9, 2022. Evan is a Richmond native transferring from Providence Forge Presbyterian Church. Evan loves movies, music, and the Atlanta Braves. He recently started a new job as a software engineer at Law School Admission Council. Kiana grew up in Hampton Roads, Virginia attending a Baptist Church. She currently is an Insurance Adjuster for USAA and has been living in Richmond since early 2020. She enjoys reading, Art History, 80’s music, and being a helicopter Mom to her smoosh-faced cat named Vienna Sausage.
Amelia Adair
Amelia is a Richmond native and thrilled to be back in the POJ after living in Philadelphia for three years. There, she attended First Presbyterian which, fun fact, had three signers of the Declaration of Independence in its congregation. She moved when her job as a recruiter became completely remote and, since being home, has enjoyed weekly dinners with her family and discovering new coffee shops and markets around town.
Kevin and Kitty Bryant
Kevin and Kitty lived in Richmond following their marriage in 1986. They moved away from Richmond in 1994 and lived in Winston-Salem, Atlanta, and Charlotte before returning to Richmond last year to be near family. Kevin has worked in technology for financial services firms his entire career. They have three grown sons, enjoy going to Folk Music Concerts, and look forward to traveling again as Covid restrictions diminish.
Nancy Millsaps
Nancy joins us from Tuckahoe Presbyterian, where she and her late husband, Bill, were members for nearly 30 years, and where she was involved in Outreach efforts. Their daughter, Camerian, lives in Arizona while she completes grad school. Nancy enjoys playing golf and looks forward to connecting with old friends and new friends during our Covid reprieve.
Anna Moore
Anna is a retired nurse and the mother of two adult children who live in the Richmond area; and she also has two grandchildren. She enjoys listening to books and cooking and is interested in missions.
Joe Earhart and Terry Crickenberger
Join as Affiliate Members retaining their membership at First Presbyterian Church, Waynesboro
Joe and Terry moved to Richmond in January and settled in the Fan. Joe left the University of Virginia in April of 2019, to care for his mother and retired December 2019 with 33 years of state service. Joe has a green belt in Karate and became a certified fitness instructor in 2019. He enjoys music and most recently took guitar lessons for 6 years for his personal enjoyment. Terry retired after winding down a 41 year career in Children’s Mental Health. He has many years of experience singing in church choirs in the church of the Brethren, Episcopal, and Presbyterian Churches. He once conducted a church choir at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Denver. Prior to becoming a nurse, he obtained a degree in church music from Westminster Choir College. They enjoy film and gardening and have a 3 year old cat named Orwell and a 2 year old Schnoodle named Winston.
Jack and Erica Warren
Erica (formerly Vogler) and Jack Warren met at Presbyterian College and recently moved to Richmond from Nashville, TN. Erica works in finance and Jack in sports advertising. Erica was born and raised in Richmond and Jack in Columbus, Ga. If they are not spending time with their dog, Darla, they enjoy traveling, watching sports, cooking, and visiting family. Both are very excited about becoming a more permanent part of 2nd, looking forward to its fellowship and community.
Brad Mooney
Brad is a recent military retiree and moved from Washington DC to be closer to his kids. He spent the first part of his career as enlisted in the Army and the second half as an officer in the Air Force. He is now a Professor of Acquisition Management for the Defense Acquisition University based at Ft Belvoir. He was born and raised in Ohio and has lived in several locations both domestic and internationally. He earned a MBA from Ohio Dominican University and a MMS from Air University. Brad enjoys sailing, athletics and reading. He now makes his home in downtown Richmond.
Melanie and Robert Griffey
Melanie and her husband, Robert, moved to Richmond two and a half years ago from Kansas City. Their daughter, Emily, lives in Richmond as well as Melanie’s 103 year-old step-father, Bill Schotanus, a retired Presbyterian minister, and his daughter, Nan Boyd, and her family. With the addition of Emily’s children, now four and seven, they had to move to Richmond! They find themselves more than busy caring the grandchildren and trying to establish a garden. They are grateful to have found Second Church of Richmond!
"Bunny" Tai
Yun-Ling (Ling/Bunny) who moved from Taiwan with a Garfield cat name JJ on July 2019. She is a visiting scholar in department of Microbiology and immunology, VCU. She was born in a Taiwanese Presbyterian church and her family from generation to generation believe in Jesus. Her family wish her to serve in church, so she played the piano in church, sang in church choir and helped Youth fellowship when she was in Taiwan. She has already joined our choir!
Eileen and Bill Vogel
Eileen and Bill Vogel are joining us by transfer of membership from a sister church in the City. They met as undergraduate students at Susquehanna University (Pa.). Bill taught Special Education in public schools in NJ and Pa. Eileen worked as a caseworker in a Social Services agency in Pa. Both worked in a State School for persons with intellectual disabilities in Pa., many who were multiply disabled. She worked in social services, he in education. They moved to Virginia in 1970, where Bill taught at VCU, Special Education, and helped set up the Special Education program in Powhatan County Schools. He retired as a mental health consultant with the Virginia State Department. In church work Eileen has served as a Deacon, Bill as an Elder. They have two daughters, one, a special education teacher, the other, a clinical social worker. They enjoy dancing, bird watching, nature, travel, and reading (history, theology). They are excited to join Second Church and its work in charity and justice, “informed by the Word of God and directed by the Holy Spirit.” Learning and growing in faith is a lifelong privilege.
Ed Davis
Ed formerly served as a deacon, chair of the Property Committee and a choir member at Second Presbyterian Church. He is an architect involved exclusively in historic preservation and has been appointed to numerous activist preservation associations in North Carolina and Virginia. Ed is currently vice president of the North Carolina State Capitol Foundation.
Hannah and Brandon Setzer
Brandon and I have been married for a year and a half now. I am a Disability Rights Advocate and he is in school for Mechanical Engineering. We have what feels like a zoo: 2 dogs, one cat, and one hedgehog! We love gardening, being outdoors, and going for walks with the dogs. We recently became foster parents to a teenage girl. We have loved being at Second and are so happy to officially be members!
David, Karan and Mia Alan
David is a former opera singer turned news anchor, having sung with the San Francisco Opera, Florida Grand Opera as well as with the Chattanooga Opera and Mobile Opera companies. For the past 20 years, he has anchored the evening newscasts at 13News Now in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area. He is a graduate of Carnegie-Mellon University. As a member of First Presbyterian Church in Virginia Beach, he served on two Pastor Nominating Committees and sang in the choir. David was born in Pittsburgh, PA, raised in New Jersey and is a Texan by marriage.
Karan is a native Texan and likes to spend time outside gardening and dreaming up home improvement projects. She does hot yoga with her daughter, and the two of them love to go plant shopping together. She also likes to read, paint and follow politics when not spending time with her family.
Mia is a Randolph-Macon College alumna and currently a Doctorate of Occupational Therapy student at Shenandoah University. She loves to spend time outside gardening, playing the ukulele, birdwatching, and playing golf. She is in training to become a yoga teacher and enjoys meditation and practicing mindfulness.
Gordon and Heidi Campbell
Gordon and Heidi Campbell are joining us by transfer of membership from Chester Presbyterian Church. They are both elders and have been very active in the Church. Gordon describes himself as a “Back Bencher sub-woofer” in the choir and Heidi very active in Church mission projects. They have a grown daughter, Sorena, who resides in Woodstock, GA.
Larry Leach
Larry is a recent widower as my my wife of 30 years passed away in March after battling metastatic breast cancer for five years. His daughter is a sophomore at Virginia Tech and his son is a recent graduate of the University of Mary Washington. He has worked in the banking field since graduating from King University in Bristol, TN. First for SunTrust Bank and currently supervising Bank Reconciliations for the Virginia Department of Taxation here in Richmond. He grew up in the Presbyterian Church in Christiansburg, VA, but migrated to another denomination when settling in the Richmond area during the 90s. He and his wife began visiting Second Presbyterian after his wife’s cancer diagnosis, finding God’s comfort and promises in a more traditional service.
Kathy and Brian Kane
Kathy recently retired as a family nurse practitioner from transplant surgery at VCU. Brian recently retired from Altria where he did IT networking and security work. They have two grown children: Matt who lives in Richmond and works for the State, and Jenny who is an ER nurse in NC with her husband Ellis who has been at Fort Bragg in the Army Special Forces. They enjoy the outdoors - hiking, biking, kayaking, boating. Brian is also working on learning golf.
Layne Talbott
Layne was raised in Dinwiddie. He is a student at VCU studying Professional Chemistry with Honors and Applied and Computation Mathematics. He currently works as a Biochemist in the School of Medicine, Department of Infectious Disease.
Gary White
Gary White has been married to Becky White for 53 years. They adopted their son in Taiwan 35 years ago and have one granddaughter. Gary worked in computers for 41 years, retiring in 2010. He comes from First Baptist Church but has been attending Second regularly with Becky for the last few years and is actively involved with our Arts Committee. Gary is happy that he is now an official member of Second.
Mary Ann Brenner
Mary Ann moved from Lawrence, Kansas to Richmond April of 2017. Her daughter and two grandsons live in the Richmond area. She is a retired pharmacist and enjoys spending time with family and friends.
Connie Felvey
Connie Felvey recently moved to Westminster Canterbury from Kilmarnock, where she was a member of Campbell Memorial Presbyterian Church in Weems. She comes to Second with a large, fun contingent of residents from the Tower
Brenda and Howard Long
Brenda and Howard moved to the Richmond area in June 2018 after having lived in Blacksburg, Virginia for 15 years and former members of Blacksburg Presbyterian Church. The move to the area was initiated to be closer to family and especially two grandchildren! They are natives of Tazewell County, Virginia. Brenda's forty-plus career in public education included teacher, assistant principal, and administrative director. She works part-time as Executive Director for the Virginia Association for Career and Technical Education and monitors public policy activities.
Howard's career in the aggregate (stone) industry included plant superintendent and director of safety and personel and serving on numerous legislative committees addressing the stone industry. Howard served as a Deacon and Elder of Richlands Presbyterian Church. He enjoys retirement immensely!
They have two sons, Howie, and family of Midlothian, and Benjamin of Charlotte.
Sarah Allison-Kern
A lifelong Presbyterian, Sarah grew up in Houston, TX with her parents, sister, and many cats. After attending college in New Jersey and graduate school in Washington, D.C., she settled in Philadelphia with husband Brad. Sarah works in the museum field and moved to Richmond with Brad in 2018 for a position with a cultural resources management company. In her free time, Sarah enjoys reading, running, and trying new recipes.
Michael and Collyn Hawn
Collyn is a proud Mother of two and Grandmother of five and had a long career as a school Psychologist. Her church work has been focused on education and choir. Michael served as a Church Music Professor in three seminaries for forty plus years. He has served as Minister of Music in Baptist, Methodist, and Presbyterian Churches. His research has been in hymnology, especially from Africa, Asia, South and Central America. They have traveled widely and have supported many international students. Michael has played the accordion since he was five years old!

Marvin Daniel
Marvin is married to his high school sweetheart, Cathy, and will be celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary this summer. They have two sons ages 41 and 38 and three grand-daughters. Marvin is most proud of his service as an Elder at First Presbyterian Church, Virginia Beach, VA and his current service as a member of the Board of Trustees of Union Presbyterian Seminary. He co-coordinated the recent Interfaith Trip to Israel.
Gilliam Carll
Gilliam Carll is a first-year medical student who comes from Rochester, New York. When she is not studying, she loves cooking, knitting, and getting outdoors. She loves meeting new people and is excited to explore Richmond and be part of Second Presbyterian!
Rebecca Smyth
Rebecca Smyth was born in Ireland and moved to the States in 1995. She grew up in Goochland County and attended The Steward School and The University of South Carolina. She loves to stay active by horseback riding with her parents, playing tennis, running, and throwing the Frisbee with her fiancé, Jay Morgan and their dog, Sully.
Joey Ellen
Joey Ellen was born and raised in Richmond and is now a Physician at Virginia Urology with a practice focused on men's wellness. In his spare time he enjoys hiking, riding bikes on the capital trail, and traveling. He is excited to become a member at Second Presbyterian and will marry Meghana Gowda at Second in March.
Sandra and Blackwell Shelley
Sandra, a writer, was born in Toronto and grew up in Houston. Black is an attorney and a Richmond native. They have been married 28 years and have two grown children, Madeleine (23) who works in Boston and Lila (19) who is a sophomore at Virginia Tech. They are looking forward to becoming more involved at Second!
Hannah Garrity, Rick Lilly, Whitner and Ada
Hannah and Rick are both educators newly hired in Henrico County. Rick serves as Athletic Director at Highland Springs High School and Hannah teaches Art at Wilder Middle School. Hannah is a Liturgical Artist who serves as a Creative Collaborator for Sanctifiedart.org and also serves as the Liturgical Artist for the Montreat Conference Center. She is leading the Arts Class in creating Advent banners for our sanctuary. Their children are Whitner who is a third grader and Ada who is in first grade.
Landon and Sarah Heath
Landon and Sarah look forward to being married at Second on October 26, 2019! Landon is from Mayfield, Kentucky and works in Agricultural sales, loves the outdoors, hunting, fishing, golf and his Kentucky Wildcats! Sarah is from Williamsburg, Virginia and works in Forestry for Timmons Group. She loves the outdoors, hiking, home projects/decorating, and she loves her Hokies!!
Lynne Fetter
Lynne Fetter moved to Richmond from Virginia Beach in August to pursue her Master of Social Work degree at VCU. In her free time, she enjoys reading, writing, and singing. She is looking forward to becoming more involved in missions at Second.
Kierstin and Parker Johnsen
Kierstin grew up attending 2nd Presbyterian Church in Baltimore, MD. Parker grew up attending 1st Presbyterian Church in Lynchburg, VA and went to UVA. They met in New York City and have now moved to Richmond where Parker is a third year medical student at VCU and Kierstin is an insurance broker. She also enjoys being involved at the VMFA and the Visual Arts Center. They have been attending services at Second since September and are excited to commit to membership and engage more with the Church Community.
Reed Price and Katie Blubaugh
Reed is from Indianapolis, Indiana, and Katie is from Williamsburg, Virginia. They met at VCU where Reed completed a Bachelor’s in Communication Arts, and Katie completed a Master’s in Teaching. Reed now works in Scott’s Addition as a web developer. Katie is a third grade teacher for Chesterfield County Public Schools. They will be getting married in November 2018. is
Carly Groover
Carly grew up in Lynchburg, Virginia where she attended her childhood church, St. Andrews Presbyterian. She moved back to Virginia after living in Denver, Colorado where she obtained her Masters in Conflict Resolution. When she is not exploring the outdoors with her golden doodle, Baloo, she is traveling the globe. Carly loved to experience new cultures, immersing herself in the food, music, and people she meets around the world.
Clare Diester
Clare Diester grew up in the quiet town of Marthasville, MO. She graduated from the University of Missouri with a Bachelors in Science and a (random) minor in French. She then moved to Richmond in 2015, where she obtained her Masters in Forensic Science at VCU. She is currently working towards her PhD in the Pharmacology and Toxicology Department at VCU’s Medical School. With most of her days spent doing research, she truly enjoys getting out and exploring, hiking, biking, and singing, and is looking forward to becoming a part of this wonderful community! She has joined the choir!
Hannah and Matt Franz
Hannah Askin Franz grew up going to Second Presbyterian Church and is happy to be returning! She is a PhD candidate in Educational Leadership at William & Mary and an adjunct instructor in English/Linguistics at VCU. Hannah and her husband, Matt, ere married at Second n 2009. They recently moved to Richmond from Williamsburg. They have two children: Henry (Hank) and Nell. Matthew (Matt) Franz is originally from Ashland. He is a software engineer at Lockheed Martin and a soccer referee for the NWSL and MLS.
Jack and Carol Moorman
Jack and Carol Moorman have been married for 25 years and have one daughter, Sarah, who lives in South Carolina. They met in Virginia Beach while Jack was serving in the Navy. They were married in First Presbyterian Church of Virginia Beach, where Carol was a lifelong member and Jack served on the session. In the 25 years of marriage they have moved to and from Dallas, Austin, Virginia Beach, Indianapolis and back to Richmond. Jack is an Environmental Health and Safety Manager for Aleris in Richmond and Carol is a Unit Field Trainer for Banker’s Life Insurance in Richmond. They have both served on sessions and committees in the various cities they’ve lived and enjoy being involved in the community.
Verna Gessaman
Verna Gessaman relocated to her hometown after 40 years that took her through Northern Virginia and Eastern North Carolina as a wife, mother, teacher, and banker. She is retired, a widow, with two adult children and four grandchildren three and under! She has always been involved with church and community and looks forward to this new stage of life as a member of the Second Presbyterian Family.
Jonathan Moelker
Jonathan Moelker – is a Seminary student who moved to Virginia from Tennessee to attend UPSem. Before coming here he was an engineering student at UT and worked in Facilities and Operations at Oak Ridge National Lab. Andy Morgan, one of our former Pastoral Interns was his UKirk Pastor at UT!
Tell Carlson and Chris Reina
Tell joined Second and married Chris Reina, already a member, in the sanctuary of Second on Saturday, December 16. Tell works at VCU in Fitness at the Cary Street Gym as the Business Operations Assistant. Chris is a Professor at VCU in Leadership and Mindfulness. They are excited to share their love of Second!
David Glover
David Glover has been attending Second with his partner Jack Brandt for about 19 years. He has decided to become a full member. For the past 30+ years he served as Director of the Front Office and Hospitality at the Jefferson Hotel. He is a graduate of James Madison University where he still holds a record for the High Jump!
Ashley Miller
Ashley Miller is a Registered Nurse and works at Bon Secours Richmond Community Hospital. She grew up in Fredericksburg and is a lifelong Presbyterian. Ashley is excited to be involved with all the 20s and 30s activities at Second!
Paige and Alexi Shephard are natives of Virginia however moved from York, Pennsylvania last fall. They had lived in York for five years. They were members of First Presbyterian Church of York and are excited to become members of a new church family. Paige works as a National Market Manager for a lubrication company while Alexi is a social worker for Elk Hill Farm. They enjoy running in 5 and 10 Ks, travelling, and playing with their cat, Cosmo.
Bill Richter and Ellis
Bill Richter – Bill is a Project Manager with World Pediatric Project. Originally from Dekalb, Illinois, outside Chicago, Bill and his wife Ryland moved to Richmond three years ago from Washington, DC. They have a daughter, Ellis, who will soon be two years old. Bill enjoys backpacking, cycling, and running, with his delightful daughter and wife.
Sally and Keith Johnston
Sally and Keith Johnston – A graduate of PSCE, Sally has enjoyed a fulfilling vocation in educational ministry. She continues to teach for Yale Divinity School each summer, but happily can enjoy retirement with Keith nine months of the year. Eco-spirituality and earth care are her passion. She hopes to find others at Second to grow with in these essential faith practices. Keith is a retired PCUSA Pastor with 40 years of Pastoral Ministry. They have two married sons and four grandchildren! They served as Volunteers in Mission in Korea in 1979 and served a native Alaskan Mission Church north of the Arctic Circle from 2008-2012.
Nick and Lori Lape
Nick and Lori Lape have been married for 35 years, have 3 grown children, and 3 grandchildren. They met on a blind date and have been best friends ever since. Nick was an E-5 in the Air Force serving two tours in Vietnam as a teacher of English as a second language for doctors and nurses. He is a retired audiologist who ran a speech and hearing clinic for people with severe disabilities for 33 years. He practices tai chi, wants to paint watercolors, and is an ardent Alabama fan. Lori is a cradle Presbyterian originally from Danville, Va. She has worked as a mental health Nurse for almost 40 years and now is at the VA Hospital. She enjoys reading, walking, The Richmond Folk Festival, and is obsessed with Game of Thrones and the musical “Hamilton.”
Jarl Jackson
Jarl Jackson has recently moved back to Richmond from Tallahassee, Florida where he lived for almost two decades. He is currently looking for work in town and meanwhile enjoys writing, reading, hiking, bicycling, and getting reacquainted with RVA. He served as the Tallahassee Autism Support Co-Founder/ Coordinator and served as Church Historian for his Church, First Church, Tallahassee.
Sharon and Edson Pederson
Sharon and Edson Pederson are lifelong Presbyterians. Edson is an ordained PCUSA Pastor. Sharon spent her professional life raising money for nonprofits including United Way, Duke, and MCV. In retirement she is very active with the Council of the VMFA and with grandchildren! Edson taught World History, Earth Science at Tucker High School in Henrico County. He has served as stated supply pastor at churches in the Presbytery since 1980. He serves as a Tour Guide for The Valentine throughout the city.
Marion “Dusty” Pritchett
Dusty has three children and eight grandchildren. She loves nature – hiking, canoeing in the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York. She especially loves birding. She moves to Westminster-Canterbury last May from Charlotte, NC and loves it. She also loves music, and encouraging young people. She has a deep faith in God.
Pat Hass
Pat married Anthony Hass, an executive officer of Kraft/General Foods, with whom she lived in Washington, D.C. and New York. Pat and Tony had three children and six grandchildren. Pat's career has been journalism and for thirty years a senior book editor at Random House in New York City. Pat's sister is Jane Cecil and her brother is John Cecil.
Karen and Randolph Irby
Karen is a teacher for Henrico County Schools. Randolph is a finance and accounting specialist. They have two children, Sarah, who resides in Richmond and Rand who currently lives in Georgia. They are transferring from a sister church in the City.
Jamie Alexander and Priscilla Powell
Jamie is from Richmond. He is an avid fly fisherman after living out in Jackson Hole for several years. He is a portfolio manager at Redmond Asset Management. Jamie and his wife, Priscilla Powell, were married at Second Church in 2015. Priscilla also grew up in Richmond. She is a child psychologist at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond and in private practice. Their son, Wyatt Alexander, was born in December 2016.
Lauren and Reid Powell
Laura and Reid have been married since June 2015 and have a 5 month old son names James. Reid is in sales and Lauren is a high school teacher. They love spending time with family and playing music together. Reid grew up at Second Presbyterian Church and now that they are a family, they are excited for it to become their Church Home.
Xel (“Shell”), Kandi, and Alison Sant’Anna
After living in New Kent for 24 years, the family recently moved to the City to enjoy the vibrant life it has to offer. Xel enjoys cycling and the outdoors. He is the son of a Presbyterian minister and looks forward to helping to better the lives of his new neighbors. Kandi is a native of Richmond. After graduating from VCU, she entered the financial industry and has worked for BB&T Scott& Stringfellows for the last 22 years. She enjoys being with family and friends, running and travel. Alison is a recent graduate of East Carolina University with a degree in Communications. Throughout high school and college she has been involved with the Virginia Department of Alcohol Beverage Control working to prevent underage drinking. Alison loves to be outdoors, working out at Crossfit, and being with her friends and family.

Hank and Susan Postel
Hank and Susan moved to Richmond in 2006 after Hank retired having served his last church in Maryland for 24 years. His post retirement career included an enjoyable year as Associate Interim Minister at Second Church. Susan is a retired school teacher. She has enjoyed being a minister’s wife for many years. Their children and grandchildren have kept then travelling to many interesting areas of the world. Now they are enjoying settling into a calmer retirement
Anne and Don Looney
Anne is originally from Winston-Salem and graduated from UNC (Chapel Hill) and taught Austin & Meredith the UNC fight song very early in their lives. She has worked in the IT field for most of her working life and her current position is on a major software implementation for the executive departments of the Commonwealth of Virginia. She enjoys family, running, fitness, watching sports, travel, and reading. Don is originally from Northern Virginia and graduated from Eastern Kentucky University. He has worked in several fields (real estate, advertising, food safety). He is currently an account rep focusing on molecular-based technology used for monitoring foodborne pathogens. He enjoys family, running, tennis, reading, watching sports, and travel.
