October 4: Rev. J. Herbert Nelson
The Rev. J. Herbert Nelson, II serves as the Stated Clerk of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA). He was elected at the 222nd General Assembly (2016) in Portland, Oregon. The son, grandson and nephew of Presbyterian pastors, Nelson is the first African American to lead the denomination. Rev. Nelson is a prophetic voice for justice who calls us to stop labeling each other as progressives or conservatives, and to focus instead on “the impact God can make through us in a broken world.” Rev. Nelson will preach on Sunday and bring anniversary congratulations from the Presbyterian Church (USA).
