Prison Ministry

Assisting Families of Inmates

Originated in 1978 by Second Presbyterian Church, this agency provides transportation to 15 correctional centers for hundreds of Richmond area families so they can maintain relationships with incarcerated loved ones. On Saturdays, volunteers provide child care in the morning while families gather and wait for departure of the buses and other volunteers provide a hot meal and fellowship at the end of a long visiting day. The agency strives to support the families in other ways. Staff advocates on behalf of prisoners’ families with the Department of Corrections on projects such as upgrading visiting room facilities and improving visitor regulations. Click for more information on Assisting Families of Inmates Inc.

Church volunteers work with children and provide an evening meal for this program. Call AFOI’s Fran Bolin at 643 2401 if you are interested in volunteering.
